What's in the December Book Box:
1) Vasily Grossman's Life and Fate (Ukraine): An extraordinary book , this classic is often compared to Tolstoy's War and Peace, although Grossman's style is likened to Chekov and Saul Bellow. Life and Fate is set in the late autmn and winter of 1942-1943 and follows the life and fate of the Shaposhnikov family.
2) Fran Ross' Oreo (U.S.A): This hilarious novel is both playful and profound, following the adventures of a biracial Black Jewish girl, as she searches for her father based on clues he leaves her. Published in 1974 it is considered way ahead of its time and is only now getting its due.
