"Art Cinema is Boring". The Film Box challenges this notion by demystifying the work of the best filmmakers, by creating a context within which to view them.
Each Box will contain films from the Criterion Collection, along with inserts with detailed information on each film. There will also be an exclusive post film discussion sent to subscribers.
The October Film Box will showcase two filmmakers: one from the East and one from the West, yet with several threads that tie them together. Both filmmakers were incredibly versatile in their work, exploring a wide range of themes and stories. Both were receptive to ideas from opposite ends of the world. The filmmaker from the East (let us call him A) was inspired to use ideas from the west to find new ways of looking at his home city and country. The filmmaker from the West had a high degree of curiosity about the East and even made a documentary film about the city that 'A' was from.
We will stop with the hints to avoid getting any more cryptic. Except to say that the pictured scene is from one of our favorite films by 'A' that somehow reminds us of the languid beauty of a richly brocaded silk sari.
