I first spoke about the exemplary Rivka Galchen here, while I was still mid-way through her fabulous novel, Everyone Knows Your Mother is a Witch, which I have since told everyone in my vicinity to read. So you can understand my delight when writers Kati Kitamura and Hari Kunzru, partners and parents irl, chose Rivka’s children’s book (Rat Rule 79) in our inaugural children’s book box in the US. Novelists dipping their toes in children’s fiction doesn’t always go swimmingly, but Rat Rule 79 is a genuinely funny, relatable and unforgettable book that comes with a slew of endorsements (Lemony Snicket, Karen Russell, Gary Shteyngart, Nicole Krauss, etc) I fully concur with. Which is all to say: watch this space, we have something v special with her cooking.
James Fridman is an artist with a rib-tickling sense of humour who’s truly harnessed ‘the power of Photoshop’, I could browse his feed for hours.
Anne Carson writes (beautifully) in the LRB about being diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
