Thank you for all the love you’ve shown for the Uncommon Gifting Guide, part two is just around the corner. In the meantime, here’s a little this, a little that. We announced our December Beauty Box, it’s very special, don’t sleep on it, or on this ridiculously good never-before, perhaps never-again one with one offer that Lavanya’s pulled out of the hat for two days only.
Mom in Doorway
by the late great Larry Sultan (1946–2009)
This hilarious excerpt from The Witches are Coming by Lindy West.
Designer Bella Freud, daughter of painter Lucian Freud and great-granddaughter(?) of the father of psychotherapy himself, has a podcast called Fashion Neurosis where she interviews people like Kim Gordon, Zadie Smith, Kate Moss and Rick Owens, to mention a few. To call it a “fashion podcast” would be inaccurate, though, Freud is a sharp, curious, intelligent interviewer who never lets the conversation slip into cliché. Her iconic jumpers (1970) and candles would be right at home in our gifting guide, and if you enjoy this peek into her mind you’ll like the Sunday Stories section of her website where she documents several anecdotes from her unconventional life, including the first time she saw Kate Moss through the window of a taxi in Paris, growing up with a pet rat, living in Morocco as a child, and so much more.
God’s List of Liquids by Anne Carson
Psst… Anne Carson’s “nonstop triumph of a book” (and her first book of original material in eight years), Wrong Norma, is in our book boxes (October in the U.S., and December in India).
